July 2015

Better late than never.  One reason I like to do this soon after quilt club is so I remember things to post.  I may not remember so well this time.  :(

This is Patty's Chevron quilt that she is in the process of making.  

This is my progress so far on my round robin.  I am going to add a small black strip before the next round.  Peggy is planning on some applique for that!!!

This is a quilt that Rhonda made with triangle scraps her mom got at a yard sale.  It is prettier in person as the colors are more vibrant.  What a great use of these scraps.

 And this is the back of Rhonda's quilt.  We all loved this material.  From Connecting Threads.

 The quilters at today's meeting. minus me.  Everyone was busy working on their own projects.

Sheree made this wedding quilt for Andrea and Joshua;  it is now ready for Rhonda to quilt.  She took picture of invitations to bridal showers, the bottle he used to proposed to her, pictures of the restaurant, signatures of guests and pieces of her wedding gown.   Another family heirloom.

These are quilts I made for Josiah and the baby due next month.  Sarah wanted them to have matching quilts for the pirate themed room they will be sharing.

 This is the back or one of them.  I found this Pottery Barn sheet-100% cotton-at a yard sale.

Ok-here is where we get pretty iffy about details.  We are meeting again August 29th for quilt club.  We will be working on our next round of our round robins.  (Or at least we will be thinking about working on it!)

In September we are planning on a shop hop around Gettyisburg and Maryland.  I think September 19th was mentioned as the date.  More details following.

June 2105

What a good day to be quilting with friends.  It was unseasonably cold and rainy today.  We didn't mind the weather as we worked on our projects.

Patty was up for her round of the round robin quilt.  She opted for a braided border.  Patty is actually working on two of these at one time!  She finished her round on her blue quilt.  Looks great!

 The purple round robin still needs the braided border.  Just some subtle changes made the quilt look so different.

 The rest of us need to select our colors and get this border on our centers.  Unfortunately for Peggy, who was on vacation during this club get together, she was elected to design the next border.

Patty's quilt finished larger than Rhonda's and mine-she made the border next to her star wider.  I think ours ended up measuring around 34-35 inches.

Sue and I spent club time working on the Special Olympics bargello quilt.  Most of that time was ripping out mistakes.  Here is Sue putting a border on with her Featherweight.  The finale of the quilt top is below!

Our bargello quilt!  Rhonda is going to quilt it and hopefully this one will bring a lot of money into SO's coffers!  The colors are much more vibrant.  When it is finished I hope to take it outside to photograph.

Rhonda had some quilt tops that I didn't get pictures of.  Please don't gift them until I get pictures of the finished quilt!

We will be working on a new leader/ender quilt.  It will be triangles cut with the tri-rec ruler.  Use a 4 1/2 inch strip to cut them.  There are nine of us in quilt club.

Next meeting is July 25th.  At that time we should have Patty's round on our round robin quilts and be ready for Peggy's round.

April 2015

Wow-can you believe it is the end of April and still feels like winter?  It has been in the twenties over night.  I don't know about everyone else, but I am really ready for Spring to arrive and stay for a while.

Here is the 3rd round for our Round Robin quilt.  I designed this round with half square triangles and triangles.  I used 28 squares per side and I think 8 triangles.

You saw Rhonda's and Sue's stars with first border last month.  Here is Linda's.  Mine, of course, is above.

We made good use of Rhonda's design wall.  First to display our RR centers, then to work on our bargello quilt.  But before I get to the bargello, let's look at the show and tells.  Patty was busy and Linda had show and tell, but unfortunately, nothing from the rest of us.

Here is Patty's Grand Illusion.  She used fall colors and it turned out beautiful.  I think she is going to quilt this herself.

Patty made this Crown Royal quilt for her husband.  This will be her first quilt she is going to quilt herself.  The colors didn't turn out very good on this.  The gold is more gold.  The quilt is beautiful and I'll get a better picture when it comes back quilted!!

And Linda finished up this bag during quilt club.  I think she should probably get an award for making the most bags.  Rhonda may be a contender too.

I almost forgot-Rhonda made these interesting stretched looking pinwheels.  She used a 5 X 10 inch square to get the distorted look to them.  They will make a very interesting quilt.  Ronda also had a t-shirt that she had a picture of one of the Queens from Africa on, which she is going to use to make a memory quilt.  Lots to look forward to from Rhonda.

This is the first panel for the SO quilt.  We had to change it up a bit because we weren't liking all the yellow that was going to be the center.

We debuted some fabrics for the inner border.  Rhonda and I kind of liked the aqua one the best.

This is a mock up I did with our one panel of how the quilt might look when finished.  I think I am going to like it! What does everyone else think?

And for the grand finale!!!  Rhonda made this Sinful Sausage Sub.  Everyone was swooning over it, it was so delicious!  This came from a book Rhonda discovered from her travels in the South, written by the Sweet Potato Queens.  The recipe is below.

One long loaf of French Bread

Slice off the top third, Hollow out the lower section and tear the excess bread into little pieces.

One pound of loose sausage

Brown the sausage. drain fat. add onions and celery and cook until tender.

1/2 cup chopped onions

One cup chopped celery

2 eggs

1/4 cup milk

1/8 teaspoon pepper

In a separate bowl mix eggs,milk, pepper add in bread pieces. Add in sausage mixture.

Melt one stick of butter and coat the inside of the loaf of bread. Add sausage mixture.

Top with 8 slices of pepper jack cheese. Put top back on.

Wrap in foil and refrigerate overnight.

next day take out of refrigerated and let come to room temperature.

Bake 40 minutes at 320 degrees.

Next official club meeting will be May 23rd, but we may try to get together before then to work on the SO quilt.  So I guess you could give Rhonda a call if you have time to stop in and work on it.

This is going to be a jumbled up blog post.  There isn't much rhyme or reason to the order of the pictures.  So without further ado, here are our projects and our show and tells.

First up is a quilt that Rhonda quilted for Sheree.  I forget the name of the pattern, but we did this same pattern as a group years ago.

This is the color palate we decided on for our SO quilt.  One of the purples had to be replaced with the border purple because there wasn't enough yardage.  I had to leave early, so the rest of the club cut these fabrics into strips and started piecing them together.  I think next club is when the magic will begin in making this into a bargello quilt.

 This is Linda's wall hanging that she is working on.  She got the binding on and now is talking about putting little wreaths on it.

 I think Linda may have been working on this bag-I grabbed it and took a picture.  Pretty grays with that red button.

 Peggy's star.  How did you get your points to match so well Peggy?  I really had trouble with that.

This is a jelly roll quilt Rhonda made-and she made it with the help of her new design wall.  (I want this pattern.  Did this come from MSQ?)

 Another Bonnie Hunter pattern-Midnight Flight I think it is called.  Just beautiful Rhonda.

I think next month we will continue to work on the SO quilt.  If everyone is ready for the next round of the Round Robin quilt we are making, let me know and I will bring the directions for my round.  Next club date should be 4/25, which is Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand, according to my calendar.

I hope your sister and mom are doing better Deb.  I also hope that Cathy gets some answers and resolutions to her medical issues.  Also hoping that John continues to improve.  Thoughts and prayers for all of you.

One final thought-here is the reason I had to leave early.  Chin Lei.  She is a funny looking little Shih Tzu/ Chi mix.  Lucy loves her, but she pretty much ignores poor Lucy.

February 2015

We missed some more snow at quilt club Saturday.  This has been a snowy year so far, and today, Sunday, March 1, it started to snow pretty early.  It is coming down pretty heavy as I write this blog post.  Storm Chasers said to expect 2-4 inches then mixing with freezing rain.  I am glad we were able to get together yesterday!

As usual,  Rhonda was able to get a lot of projects done, even with her busy travelling schedule.  First up are her Downton Abbey bags.  The gray one came in a kit and the blue one she made with fabric she had.

This is a new block Rhonda made as a prototype.  She wants to make it larger before she puts it into a quilt.  I am looking forward to seeing the finished results of this-probably next quilt club?

Some people weren't at quilt club last month to see this little twisted pinwheel quilt.  This came from the Bedford quilt shop.

Patty made this log cabin quilt with the folded fabric technique.  Then she hand sewed some pearl lace on the blocks.

 Here is a close up of that.  This little bling took this quilt to another level.  Very pretty.

Rhonda was the first to finish her Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.  Very pretty Grand Illusion.  Who else is making this?  I am slowly getting my top sewn together and maybe will have it for next time.

Here is the back-pretty fabric and great quilting.  Very nice Rhonda!

This is a pinwheel quilt Rhonda made with scraps from another quilt using these fabrics.  She is still working on the yo-yos to applique on the vine.  Notice the mitered corners on the border!

Sheree made a couple of bags using the Downton Abbey pattern.  I am not much into sports, but I love the gray one!

On to our Round Robin quilt.  Here is Sue's round.

Busy at work.

 

We decided to start working on the Special Olympics quilt next month.  The bargello is what we decided to make.  Rhonda had some fabric that we will use for borders and inspiration for colors.  See above on the second page of Sue's directions for her border for the fabric sample.



Here is the pattern we will be using.  Link to pattern.  So check your fabrics for matches to the color sample for next time.  It looks like we need 1/2 yard of one fabric and the others are 3/4 to 1 1/4 yards.  Bring what you have and let's see if we have a pretty blend of fabrics for this quilt
