October 2013

Wow-can you believe how quickly this year has gone by?  Rhonda told us that next month marks our 10th Anniversary.  The years have flown by too.  I am so grateful that I have had this little quilt club to come to for most of those 10 years.

Linda, you look quizzical here.  I wonder what you were thinking about?  This is Linda's tumbler quilt.  Who is still working on theirs?  This is one quilt that I believe we have all made.  

 We have two marathoners this month!  They have been super productive with their crafts.

Up first is Peggy.  She is modeling her knitted and crocheted items.  We all wanted to be on  her Christmas list!  I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

 Cathy is making Christmas placemats.  She shared how they were made with us.  Someone is going to have a pretty Christmas table this year.

 Here is our other marathoner this month!  Rhonda made another bag-great fabric for the bag style again.

 This is one of four Patriot's quilt Rhonda is making.  This is a really interesting pattern.  Linda-I would like a copy of this.  Don't bother mailing it to me-I can get it next club date.

 This is another Bonnie Hunter quilt-a rectangle trip around the world.  I forget the name.  Rhonda made this totally random and scrappy.  The picture doesn't do it justice.

Next month, November 9th, we are going to get together for a road trip.
We are meeting at 8 AM at Rhonda's house and heading to some quilt shops.  Should be fun!  See you then.

Sept. 2013 II

Quilt club part II.  Club met again Sept. 28th.  

We had a lot of show and tells.

Peggy is up first.

 Peggy's granddaughter, Gabby, was our special guest. She brought her very first quilt that she pieced, machine quilted and bound. She did an awesome job. Keep up the good work Gabby.

 Although Linda wasn't at quilt club. We showed her quilt for her granddaughter, Kinley. Rhonda machine quilted it with a cute dolphin panto. It turned out really nice.

 Rhonda is starting her Christmas presents. Straight to the point pattern. Need to get the borders on and then quilt it.

 Rhonda's second quilt top for a Christmas present. This was a group project "Jelly Roll race". It took about 1 1/2 hour to sew together. It was fun, quick and easy. Still needs the border.

 Sue finally had a free Saturday to spend with us. She spent her summer camping. She did have one show and Tell. It is a bed runner for a dear friend in a nursing home. He is transferring homes from Delaware to Pennsylvania to be closer to family and friends. The orange blocks are for signatures from the Delaware nursing home. Sue has to get the binding finished by 5 am Sunday so she can leave it for them to sign. She works great under pressure.

Sept. 2013

We had two club meetings this month.

  The first meeting was on the 20th.  Here is our show and tell first.  

This is Bonnie Hunter's pineapple blossom that I made for an ex-coworker who has breast cancer.  I really love this quilt.  It is not as complicated to make as it looks.

 These are the quilt tops that Linda made for her grand kids.  The nautical panels came from Florida.

This is one of Deb's quilts that Rhonda just quilted for her.  Very pretty, calming colors.

Rhonda made another bag-I fogot the name of it??? She added inside pockets and changed the handles.  Really pretty fabric.

Rhonda did some freehand quilting on her baby quilt.  Great job.  

Rhonda took scraps and made this cute quilt.  I think it's going to be a baby quilt.

We worked on the Jelly Roll Race quilt.  Without problems it took about an hour and a half to make the top.  Careful selection of fabric made some really cute quilt tops.

August 2013

 Quilt club was a little bit different today.  We met early to go to a garage sale.  The couple were selling fabric at a great price.  $5 a bag.  We got there when the sale was supposed to start and it was already packed with buyers.  We all got at least one bag and some of us got two!  There was more than fabric there.  They had all kinds of craft items and even yard sale items.   We should be good to go for scrappy quilts!

Here is another one of the mesh bags that Rhonda made.  They are really cute and nice bags to take to the beach.  The mesh at the bottom allows the sand to escape.

 This is Cathy's second patriotic twist quilt that Rhonda quilted for her.  They turned out great.

 This is just the flimsy of a Bonnie Hunter's Dancing 9 patch quilt that I made as a leader/ender project.

 I made this Thimbleberries quilters garden quilt for my mother.  The printed blocks I bought for this quilt didn't work, so I designed the pink and green blocks for that space.

Something funny mother's say:  I came home today with fabric and my mother asked me what I was going to do with it.  I said make quilts.  She then said to me,"Do you make quilts?"  Kind of funny but kind of sad too.

 Here is our charity quilt all done.  It turned out great and is quite different than any other quilt we have made for the Special Olympics so far.  Even the binding is scrappy.

 Rhonda demonstrated the disappearing 4-patch quilt for us today.  This is going to be an adorable quilt when it is finished.

Rhonda made a mini-tumbler Christmas stocking.  I may have to consider this as we will be having a new family member soon.





























Another thing we did a little bit different this time was to have brunch instead of lunch/dinner.  All of the food was super yummy!  There was a hash brown casserole, a french bread casserole-recipe for that is following the picture, an egg casserole and fruit with dip.

Baked French Toast Casserole  (Rhonda made this.)

8 eggs

1 1/2 cups half and half

1/3 cup of maple syrup

1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

10-12 one inch thick slices bread

Grease 9 X 13 pan

Mix eggs, half and half, maple syrup and sugar in large bowl

POlace bread slices in the prepared casserole dish and cover with the eg mixture, cover with plastic wrap and let soak overnight in the refrigerator.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, remove casserole from refrigerator.

Make topping,

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2/3 cup maple syrup

Melt butter in sauce pan add sugar and maple syrup, bring to boil and cook for 1-2 minutes. stir in 2 cups pecans. Pour over bread mixture. Bake 45-55 minutes, cool 10 minutes then serve

The hash brown casserole Sheree made with frozen hash browns, onions, cream of chicken soup and cereal crumbs on the top. Sheree, let me know if I missed anything.




Deb's egg casserole is different every time. She used bread, peppers, ham, eggs and cheese. It was almost like a bread filling.




It was nice to see Sheree again after her hiatus. We missed Cathy and Sue. Peg was there for the yard sale then had to leave for a grandchild's game.




Linda showed us how to make mug cozies that we will finish next time.

Next month we will be working on a project that Rhonda is going to share with us.  You will need to have 36-2 1/2 inch strips (cut the width of the fabric or jelly roll strips.)  Sew them together end to end like you sew binding.
