Show and Tell time!

And Rhonda's mystery quilt completed.  Another Bonnie Hunter pattern-Celtic Solstice.

Rhonda taught us a new technique for making Kaleidoscope blocks.  Rhonda had a  ten inch square marked off on her cutting board.

She put a marking three inches from each corner of the square.

Ten inch squares-right sides together-were put into the frame.  Then the cutting begins.  Line up the ruler from one three inch mark at the top of the frame to the three inch mark on the bottom of the frame at the other side, on an angle as shown and cut. 

Then without moving the fabric, move the ruler to the other markings on the top and bottom and cut that angle.

The next step is to place the ruler on one marking on the side to the opposite marking on the other side-still at an angle, and make that cutting.

Finally move the ruler to the other markings on the side and make that last cut.

You will end up with two shapes-the triangle and the kaleidoscope piece.  Sew them together from tip to end, using your contrasting pieces.

You will end up with two kaleidoscope block as shown.  Rhonda said to iron seams open, but I ironed mine all in one directions without any problem.  For the final seam though, I twisted my center seam in the back, where the points met, so I had a mini kaleidoscope on the back.  This helps the block lay flat.

 Here are our final results.  Linda and I decided to make ours into table runners.

Peggy is making hers into a bikini top (just kidding!) and Rhonda and Sheree are making theirs into a square table topper.

This was a fun, new technique that I am sure we will be using again.  Thanks Rhonda!

Everyone was here this month-it has been a long time since that happened.  Great seeing everyone.  We ordered Chinese, ate, sewed, talked and laughed together.  Another great quilt club.

Peggy must have used some of her snow bound time to create cup warmers, slippers and cowls.  Here is Linda modeling the cowl.

 And Peggy finished her Jelly Roll quilt.

Linda made some cute projects-this table runner,

a doll quilt, 

 a baby quilt,

 a pillow case,

and a memory quilt.

Here is Sheree's gray and white quilt.

 I wasn't able to be a quilt club, but I heard that this peanut butter cake that Deb made was the highlight!  I will post the recipe when Deb sends it to me.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cake recipe

2 1/4 c. flour
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. peanut butter
1/2 cup butter, softened

Combine, mix on low speed until crumbly .Reserve 1 c. for topping.

1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 c. milk
1 tsp vanilla
3 eggs


Add to remaining crumb mixtures. Blend at low speed until moistened. Beat 3 mon. at medium speed. Pour into 13 x 9" pan with greased bottom only. Sprinkle with 1 c. of reserved crumbs. Sprinkle with 1 c. (6 oz.) of semi-sweet chocolate chips over crumbs. Bake 350 degrees 35-40 minutes

January 2014

Our first quilt club of the year.  Last time we got together was in November and today is February 1st.  Linda and Peggy couldn't make it this month due to illness.  Feel better soon you two.

I didn't get any action shots this month.  Sue brought a make and take project that we worked on before eating.  Our picture of that project is at the end of this post.  We had fun with it and learned a clever new technique on how to turn projects right side out.

We had brunch again-egg and sausage casserole, potato casserole, another breakfast casserole-sorry but I can't remember what that was, fresh fruit and sopapilla.  Yum!

Cathy was working on a string quilt with kitty prints.  It will be adorable when finished.  Rhonda was piecing triangles together from a leader/ender project.  

Here are the show and tells for the month.  Cathy and I had already given away our projects for Christmas presents, so we didn't have them to share.  Rhonda has been busy and has lots of pretty projects to show.

This is the back of Linda's quilt with Rhonda's new cloverleaf panto.  So pretty!

This is the front of Linda's quilt.  She made this version of the disappearing 4 patch using the black and white fabric from Kinley's bumper pad.  Linda has been very clever at recycling fabric.

This is one of Rhonda's quilts-the summer quilt from the four seasons series.  There is a lot of applique on this one.

Here is Rhonda's Blue Ridge Beauty quilt.  See the splashes of red?  This is a red quilt.  Hahahaha.

This is a wall hanging Rhonda quilted for the cabin.  The quilting adds a lot of interest to it.

This is Rhonda's Celtic Solstice quilt.

And this is my Celtic Solstice quilt.  I think they look the same but still quite different.  It is interesting to see how just the variations in fabrics changes them.

This is the back of mine.  I made 1 1/2 time the number of blocks that the smaller quilt took and the number was almost perfect for me.  My quilt is 9 blocks square.  BH's large was 11 square and I think the small one was 7 square.  The four  blocks I had left over I used on the back.

Sue made a quilt for the newest grand baby.  She bound and backed it with minky.  It was quilted on her Featherweight.  

And here is what you have all been waiting for!  Ta Da!  Our make and takes.  Vests for our wine bottles!  Aren't they cute?  (I see a soda bottle and a wine glass there too!)  Next meeting is March 1.  Hope to see everyone there!

November 2013

Welcome to the November meeting of Cloverleaf Quilt Club.  We were greeted by Rhonda wearing a Christmas present made by Sue.  She made Rhonda a pin keeper out of Hurry Down the Chimney.  She artistically embellished it with thread art.  If you want some of this fabric of your own, I found some.  Check the link.  What a fun and creative gift!

Sue is making Christmas aprons with the fabric.  I bet they have a Christmas filled with laughs.

 Here are our show and tells.  Up first is a kit that Sue bought in Lewes, Delaware.  The center is a panel and the rest is pieced.  It is even prettier in person.

 This is a quilt top that I am making for a little girl for Christmas.  I think she loves Ariel!

 This is a breast cancer quilt I made for my DIL's cousin.  The young lady is only 28.

 Linda finished her tumbler quilt and the best part of this quilt, to me, is the label.

 This is made out of her grandson's onesie.  How clever is that??

Rhonda has this Patriots quilt to bind and one of the frame to finish quilting.  All different and all pretty.

The food was great this month, as usual.  Deb made her wonderful barbecue, Sue brought chicken corn soup, Peggy brought fruit with strawberry cream cheese dip, I brought a port wine cheese ball and crackers, and Rhonda made some decadent brownies with creme brulee topping.

Sue worked on her lecherous aprons (just kidding) and the rest of us worked on our Celtic Solstice Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.  Linda, Rhonda and Peggy are sticking with Bonnie's colors.  I am switching the yellow out for pink, and Deb is totally changing the colors.  I can't wait to see how different they all turn out!

We won't be meeting next month.  Our annual Christmas get together will be in January.  I think we are looking at January 11.  Details will follow via emails.
