June 2013

It was so nice to get together again.  So sorry that you couldn't make it Peggy and Sheree.  We had an interesting time!

Up first is our show and tell.  This is a quilt that I made for a little boy who has Congenital Heart Disease-TAPVR -Pulmonary Vein Stenosis.  Here is Houston's Facebook page if you are interested in reading about him.  https://www.facebook.com/HoustonT.Schwartz?fref=ts

This is my Spanish Jewels quilt that took me about a year to make.
This is Rhonda's Jelly Roll quilt all quilted.  She is going to make a scalloped border on this.  I can't wait to see that!

Rhonda finished her snowman quilt.  I think when they are all done I will have a blog with all the snowmen quilts.
Rhonda's tumbler quilt is finished.  This is the one that inspired me to finish mine.  I wasn't liking mine until I saw this one.  I am going to put all of these together on a separate blog too when we have finished all of ours.
This beautiful t-shirt quilt is for Rhonda's niece's graduation.  Rhonda is a pro at these.

Linda, out quilter who hated applique, appliqued these cute towels as gifts!

Linda's Lone Star cross that she is going to make a pillow out of.  Beautiful!

And Linda has gotten on to the dress making craze for her granddaughter!  This is her pillowcase dress.  So cute.
Linda's blue and brown quilt finished with her four patch label!

Look at those faces!  This is pretty much how we looked all day long.  Our charity quilt was a little bit more complicated than we thought it would be.  We only have about two rows made.  Sue took a row home to sew together.  We have to lay it out before we can sew it together to make sure the blocks coloring lines up correctly.

I think when it is all together it should be pretty cute.  It looks pretty chaotic now!
Next quilt club will be June 29.  I hope everyone will be able to make it then!

Sauder's is having their sale the previous weekend.  I would love to go.  Maybe some of us can get together and make a road trip.

April 2013

We had another month with a lot of show and tells.  Rhonda put the borders on her jelly roll quilt.  I can't wait to see this quilted.  The colors are wonderful.  Do you see the secondary pinwheels?

Peggy is finally making something for herself!  Here is a shawl she is crocheting so she can sit outside in the evening.  So pretty.
This is Rhonda's "Jared takes a wife" quilt.  This is a great pattern as all of the quilts done by club members are so different and so pretty.  Very nice Rhonda.
Linda is ready to get this old WIP quilt finished.  We made this one as a group quite a while ago.  She worked on backings today for  this one and some of her other show and tells.
This quilt is from a kit that Linda fell in love with the colors.  She found the perfect backing for it too.
Another quilt that Linda made a backing for today-an Amish style quilt she got as a kit.  Great job on all of these Linda!
Another "Easy Street" finish!  Deb used the purple as a large border on hers that helps to pull the purple out.  When everyone has theirs quilted we should take them outside and get a picture of all of them.  I love this quilt!
I finally finished my tumbler quilt.  This is one we all did, I think.  It would be kind of fun to get us all together with our quilts for a group picture.
This is the quilting on the back of my quilt.
Sue always has something interesting to share with us.  (Nice to have you back Sue!)  This was made by an elderly lady who died before she finished it.  A family member asked Sue to finish it.  Sue quilted in on her DSM!  She did a really nice job of meandering it.  I think that is amazing.  This is the 13th top the lady made with her husband's flannel shirts for her grandchildren.

Here we are being productive.  It was nice to have Cathy with us too.  Everyone was here today but Sheree.
As usual we had really good food to eat.  Rhonda made a Mexican casserole.  Recipe following picture.   She also made the Babe Ruth candy pictured here.  Deb made her delicious cole slaw, and we had chips, dip, guacamole and a jelly dessert (not pictured.)

Taco Pie

2 packages of  crescent rolls (you can also purchase this in sheets now)
1 bag of corn chips (crushed)
16 oz sour cream
1 1/2 -2 pounds of hamburger (turkey or chicken)
2 packages of taco seasoning
4 cup package of Shredded cheese  (your choice of type) if you prefer you could use less.

Brown hamburger with taco seasoning according to directions on taco seasoning. Line 9 x 13 pan with crescent rolls, crumble ½ bag of corn chips on top of crescent rolls. Put hamburger mixture on top of corn chips and then cover with the sour cream. Please ¾ of bag of cheese on top of sour cream and put other ½ bag of corn chips on top of sour cream. Top off with the remainder of cheese and bake at 375 for approx. 20 minutes or until crescent rolls are done.

Sue brought a Bucket Boss to show us.  She took it apart to figure out the pattern and then duplicated it.  She also kindly shared the pattern and wrote a tutorial for us.  Nice idea for Father's Day (or Steve's birthday next month!)

We discussed the charity quilt we will be making for Special Olympics.   We are going to use bright fabrics.  Rhonda had some jelly rolls that she shared with us.  We are to make seven sets ( four in each set of the same fabric) of strips 2 1/2 X 6 1/2 and  17 single strips  2 1/2 X 6 1/2.  We will be sewing them together when we meet again.  These need to be laid out correctly to get the star patterns.  An EQ7 drawing is in last months blog.

If I missed anything, let me know and I will add to the blog.  We will be getting together again June 1st.  Hope everyone will be able to make it.  Happy Spring!  It is finally here!

March 2013

Lots of show and tell this month.  This is Peggy's version of a MSQC's quilt from their youtube tutorial.  I love the colors.
And here is Peggy's Easy Street.  She is still deciding on what colors to use on the border and the number of borders.
This beautiful little Easter dress is one of two Peggy is making for her granddaughters.  They sure are lucky to have Peggy for they grandmother!
Talking about grandmother's, this little cutie is Rhonda's grandson Griffon.  Too adorable!
This is one of Rhonda's finishes-a Connecting Threads pattern.  So cute.

This is my Snowman Quilt finished.
And this is my Thimbleberries Bird House quilt finished after about 10 years.  I am trying to finish one WIP a month.
 Sheree's Snowman quilt.
Another old WIP I finished since last quilt club.

This is my Easy Street quilt.  (no picture from quilt club show and tell, so a picture from my deck.)

Deb's is quilted and waiting to be bound.  We will probably see hers next month!  Rhonda's is almost finished too.
This is Bonnie Hunter's 4th of July pattern done in fall prints for a charity to raffle, that I made.
And another MSQC table topper I made from their youtube tutorials.
Sheree's jelly roll quilt  with sashing...

And Rhonda's version of the same quilt without the sashing.

Quilt club members were plagued with illness again; we had a small group.  Rhonda, Peggy, Deb, Pam and Sheree were all able to make it.  We all worked on various projects and ate wonderful food.  We had Deb's beef barbecue,  strawberry spinach salad, Sheree's dip and corn chips, drinks and birthday cupcakes.  I think we were celebrating quite a few birthdays this month for both February and March.

We chose a quilt pattern to make for our Special Olympics project.  I resized the quilt and sent a picture of it to everyone for approval.  It is called Twisting With the Stars.  Here is the EQ7 version resized to 72 x 84.  I am sure there will be more changes to it as we begin working with it, but this is a start.

I hope everyone will be able to make it next month, April 27th!

January 2013

It was nice to have quilt club again.  It seemed like a long time since the last club meeting-almost two months-but last meeting was our shop hop.
Here is my baby chevron quilt completed.
And the back-cute fabric that I picked up at the thrift shop that worked perfectly with the top.
This was supposed to be a hidden wells quilt that I just finished.  It had been languishing with  other WIP's.  I am really going to try to get these WIP's finished this year.  At least make a big dent in them.
Here is a baby quilt I made with the extra blocks from the Serendipity quilt I made previously.  That was a Missouri Star Quilt Co video.
This is Warm Blessings quilt that I made for a friend.  The pattern was for a table topper and she wanted extra length added to it.
This is the back to a quilt that Sue made that has had a long journey.  She made it as therapy for herself and a dear cousin who was suffering from cancer.  Her cousin did not survive and never received the quilt.  Sue attached the handkerchiefs to the back.  They are to commemorate her relatives.  She added embellishments and embroidery to them.  I believe they were for her grandmother, mother and father.
This is the front of the quilt.  The tulips were for the Dutch Dancing her aunt did.  This is Sue's first large quilt.  The quilt was given to her aunt who cherished it.  When she was updating her will, she wanted to make sure this most cherished item of hers was given to Sue.  So it has made a circuitous journey back to Sue and now resides on her bed!
Sheree also had a couple of completed quilts.  This is a pumpkin quilt that she got as a kit on the Bedford shop hop some of the quilt club members went on.  The cute pumpkins are machine appliqued.
This is Sheree's "Jared take a wife" quilt that she started at the Bonnie Hunter quilt retreat,  She added the border to the original pattern.  The colors truly sparkle on this one.  When the weather gets nicer, I may have to take some of these pictures outside so we can really appreciate the beauty in these quilts.  This one was gorgeous!
Linda is working on her snowman quilt that we started today.  (Sheree finished her top previously!)  These are made in the same fashion as the Christmas Tree quilts we made a few years ago.  Some of us were thinking about making another Christmas Tree quilt, but after making these Snowmen quilts, I for one may rethink that!
Sue and Rhonda discussing something-obviously not the snowman quilt-Sue is smiling!  Just kidding.

The snowmen weren't nearly as insane as the christmas trees.

We missed Cathy and Peg today.  Both have some kind of ugly bug that seems to be going around.  Hope you both get well soon!

Next club date is Feb 23rd.  See you then!
