August 2013

 Quilt club was a little bit different today.  We met early to go to a garage sale.  The couple were selling fabric at a great price.  $5 a bag.  We got there when the sale was supposed to start and it was already packed with buyers.  We all got at least one bag and some of us got two!  There was more than fabric there.  They had all kinds of craft items and even yard sale items.   We should be good to go for scrappy quilts!

Here is another one of the mesh bags that Rhonda made.  They are really cute and nice bags to take to the beach.  The mesh at the bottom allows the sand to escape.









 This is Cathy's second patriotic twist quilt that Rhonda quilted for her.  They turned out great.
 This is just the flimsy of a Bonnie Hunter's Dancing 9 patch quilt that I made as a leader/ender project.


 I made this Thimbleberries quilters garden quilt for my mother.  The printed blocks I bought for this quilt didn't work, so I designed the pink and green blocks for that space.

Something funny mother's say:  I came home today with fabric and my mother asked me what I was going to do with it.  I said make quilts.  She then said to me,"Do you make quilts?"  Kind of funny but kind of sad too.












 Here is our charity quilt all done.  It turned out great and is quite different than any other quilt we have made for the Special Olympics so far.  Even the binding is scrappy.



 Rhonda demonstrated the disappearing 4-patch quilt for us today.  This is going to be an adorable quilt when it is finished.
Rhonda made a mini-tumbler Christmas stocking.  I may have to consider this as we will be having a new family member soon.





























Another thing we did a little bit different this time was to have brunch instead of lunch/dinner.  All of the food was super yummy!  There was a hash brown casserole, a french bread casserole-recipe for that is following the picture, an egg casserole and fruit with dip.




Baked French Toast Casserole  (Rhonda made this.)

8 eggs
1 1/2 cups half and half
1/3 cup of maple syrup
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
10-12 one inch thick slices bread
Grease 9 X 13 pan
Mix eggs, half and half, maple syrup and sugar in large bowl
POlace bread slices in the prepared casserole dish and cover with the eg mixture, cover with plastic wrap and let soak overnight in the refrigerator.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, remove casserole from refrigerator.
Make topping,
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
2/3 cup maple syrup

Melt butter in sauce pan add sugar and maple syrup, bring to boil and cook for 1-2 minutes. stir in 2 cups pecans. Pour over bread mixture. Bake 45-55 minutes, cool 10 minutes then serve
The hash brown casserole Sheree made with frozen hash browns, onions, cream of chicken soup and cereal crumbs on the top. Sheree, let me know if I missed anything.




Deb's egg casserole is different every time. She used bread, peppers, ham, eggs and cheese. It was almost like a bread filling.




It was nice to see Sheree again after her hiatus. We missed Cathy and Sue. Peg was there for the yard sale then had to leave for a grandchild's game.




Linda showed us how to make mug cozies that we will finish next time.

Next month we will be working on a project that Rhonda is going to share with us.  You will need to have 36-2 1/2 inch strips (cut the width of the fabric or jelly roll strips.)  Sew them together end to end like you sew binding.
