January 2019

Happy New Year!

We had fun getting together again this cold winter day.  There was a lot to share and chattering was going on constantly.  I don't know how much sewing we actually got to do.

Sue taught us how to do reverse applique.  I sent out a request for everyone to send me a picture of your block.  I will add them to the blog as I get them.

Here is mine.  Our artist in residence drew my picture for me.  (Sue)  This was fun to do.  After we got this step done we still need to do a zig zag stitch around each shape.

We had our mystery quilt blocks to share.  There has been a lot of progress made with these.

Linda's lime green

 Sue's indigo

 Sheree's navy

 Rhonda's brown

Peggy's peach

 Pam's green

Doris's red

There were a lot more projects for show and tell.

This is Sue's round robin.
This is her quilting of the Mariner's Star from the back.  Wow!
Sue and her husband Jim made this quilt together.  He pieced the background and Sue appliqued the Santa on.

Then with the extra fabric, some of which was removed from the back of the Santa, Sue made this oven mitt and....

this table runner for their long table!

In Sue's other quilt club, they exchanged fat quarters and Sue made this stack and whack star quilt with those.
The backing is made up of the left over pieces of fabric.

Rhonda finished her Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt from last year.
And her round robin quilt is finished.
Another project Rhonda finished since last quilt club.

This is the matching pillowcase to go with the horse quilt.  This is the fabric Rhonda used on the back.

These are some table toppers Rhonda had fun doing some free motion quilting on.

 Rhonda's snowman quilt top.
This is the beginnings of Rhonda's triangle quilt.
Finally a baby quilt Rhonda completed.

This is my Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt from this year-Good Fortune.

Peggy's round robin quilt.

Peggy sent me some pictures of some of her quilts that have already been gifted.

This baby quilt Peggy made was first made by sewing a blanket stitch around each block and then crocheting the blocks together.  I just love this!

There were a lot of pictures from today and I forgot my camera.  :(  If I forgot to add something, send it to me and I will add it to the blog.

Rhonda sent out another clue for our mystery quilt this morning, so be sure to check your email.

Our lunch was pretty much a Mexican theme today.  Rhonda made a Mexican soup, Peggy brought chips and guacamole that Ted made, Sheree made stuffed peppers, I made a chocolate cake, we had more chips and salsa and Sangria.  Everything was wonderful.  Rhonda and Sheree-if you send me your recipes I will add them to the blog.

Here is a recipe for the stuffed peppers.  I think this is pretty close to Sheree's recipe.

https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/broccoli-chive-stuffed-mini-peppers/

Ingredients

  • 12 miniature sweet peppers
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup minced fresh chives
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 2/3 cup finely chopped fresh broccoli
  • 2/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 400°. Cut peppers lengthwise in half; remove seeds. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, chives, salt and pepper; stir in broccoli. Spoon into pepper halves.
  • 2. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet; bake until heated through, 9-11 minutes. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake until cheese is melted, 3-4 minutes longer. Cool slightly before serving.

Keep plugging away on your mystery clues until we get together in February.

Peggy is going to show us how to make fabric bowls then.  She will send an email with the supplies that we need.

Stay warm everyone-the temps are supposed to be in the sub zero range next week.  Brrrrrrr!
