Cloverleaf Quilt Club February 2019

Good weather for our February meeting.  Pam hasn't been feeling well and couldn't be with us this month.  Feel better Pam.

Our make and take for February was courtesy of Peggy.  We made fabric bowls.  They are so much fun.  The gray one is Rhonda's and Peggy did the other two.   The possibilities are endless.  Thinking about rugs next.
Sue finished hers Sunday.

Cloverleaf Quilters Mystery Clue 7
These are 12 inch finished blocks.  The block will measure at 12.5 before putting it in the quilt.  There are 4 blocks.

1.  In honor of Valentine's Day make a block with "heart" in the block name.

2. Amish style block, any name but Amish style

3. Block representing the state in which you live.

4.  Paper piecing.  I have a selected the block see attachment.  You will need to print out 4 pages and the instructions for the block.  To make sure the scale of the printed page is correct, measure the two shorter sides.  They should measure 6 inches on the inside and 6.5 on the outer edge.  For those of you who have never done this before,  Youtube has several easy tutorials on paper piecing.

Good new Ladies.  We only have 2 more clues to go before the big reveal.  We are getting there.  And with minimal whining (Sheree)!

Linda redid a memory quilt she has been working on for ages.  She torn it all apart and re-arranged the ties and patches

This is for a little girl that will be having surgery this summer.
This is a  baby quilt backing for Linda's niece in Florida
This is the front.  It will be going to Florida this week for a gender reveal party.
Sue's husband Jim has be making "Quilts of Valor" quilts.  Really nice Jim.
Backing and quilting on the back of Jim's quilt.
Another "quilt of valor" by Sue and Jim.
 And another one.
 Sheree is doing baby quilts.
 Another baby quilt.
Rhonda's finished Bonnie Hunter Leader/Ender
Back of Rhonda's BH leader/ender quilt.

Rhonda made a Chocolate "whoopie pie" type cake.  It was scrumptous, I must say so myself.  Here is the recipe.

Chocolate Cake
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsps baking soda
2 tsps baking power
1 tsp salt
½ cup Wesson oil
½ cup mayonnaise
½  cup Hershey’s cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
Mix well then add 1 cup coffee (or mix one tsp instant coffee in 1 cup of hot water). Mix again.
Pour into bundt pan and bake at 350 for 45 to 60 minutes.

For quilt club.  I made mine in two round cake pans. Took on pan and sliced the cake in half.
Frosting
2 heaping tablespoons of flour and 1 cup milk, cook until think.  Set in refrigerator 6 hours or overnight.
½ cup Crisco
½ cup butter or margarine
Beat 2 minutes
Gradually add in 1 cup sugar, then milk/flour mixture and beat for 5 min.
Last add 1 tsp vanilla and mix.

Ganache
1 cup of heavy cream
Heat to just ready to boil.  Remove from stove and add a bag of Hershey’s milk chocolate chips.  Cover and let sit.  Stir into smooth chocolaty goodness.
Put cake on a wire cooling rack and drizzle ganache over the cake.  Put cake in refrigerator until chocolate is set.
Enjoy.
