This beautiful day on June 1 is actually our May meeting and the last meeting until September. With everyone's busy lives in summer it is hard to find times where most of us will be available to get together. Never fear though. Rhonda has given us homework to do during this hiatus! We have until September to come up with our next group project. One loose requirement is that it will stretch out abilities to either do something better or learn how to do something new. So search the internet, books, magazines or just your imagination and bring your ideas with you in September!
Sue did most of the work during our meeting today. She showed us how to make this adorable draw string back pack. She made two different sizes. This one is for a child around five. She made a smaller version for a two year old. There are a lot of options for materials used for the drawstring and the back pack itself. We were all excited to gather our fabrics and make some of our own.
Sue also shared with us a formula for adding pieced borders that fit a quilt. The method involves coping or fudge strips. We all received copies of the formula and how to use it.
Rhonda has the layout done for the mystery quilt. This provides a good road map to be sure you have all the blocks ready to go. It doesn't matter if you put a clue 2 block where a clue 5 block is in the layout. What is important is that you use the size stated in the diagram. It is obvious that this project took a lot of work on Rhonda's part to coordinate, create, share and teach us. Thank you for your hard work Rhonda.
Our food theme for today was salads. We had fruit salad (Sue), fruit and pudding salad (Linda), seafood salad (Pam), home made bread-Italian and blueberry (Peggy) and beverages (Rhonda). This was perfect for this warm spring day.
Sue never fails to impress us with her talents. This is a bag she designed. She added cork to the bottom and as some of the detail touches. Some pretty cool hardware added to the design.
Linda made a Take 5 quilt for her niece. Adorable fabric both front and backing.
Peggy shared pictures of an Eagles quilt she made for a friend's son. She appliqued the Eagles on the white areas of the Carpenter's Star.
That's it for this blog post. Hopefully everyone will have lots of time to complete or get caught up with some projects this summer.
Have a happy and healthy summer! Hope to see everyone in September.
