August 2012 Quilt Club

Wow were we productive this past month.  Lots and lots of show and tell.  Up first is Rhonda's Fire Escape quilt.  It is a Panther's quilt for a co-worker of hers.
Here is a baby quilt that Linda made for a co-worker too, I think.

This is Cathy's Christmas quilt made with the Arrowhead pattern.
Peggy finished her scrappy tumbler top.
This is Peggy's Christmas tumbler quilt.  She made the tumblers larger on this one.

Another top finished by Cathy-a baby quilt with the block we used for our charity quilt.
Here is Linda's quilt top from the Bonnie Hunter weekend-Jared Takes a Wife.
And another finish by Cathy-another Bonnie Hunter quilt-Star Struck.
Deb did some mini paper piecing from Bonnie Hunter's new book.
Here is a Carpenter's Star that Pam made to take a tutorial on feather quilting.
Another finish by Pam and another quilt pattern by Bonnie Hunter-her mystery quilt from last fall-Orca Bay.
Cathy's Sudoku Quilt top.  How many finishes did this make for you Cathy?  Four?  You are on a roll!
Rhonda hand pieced some mini hexies. She has not quite decided what this will become.  Her mother would like a bed size quilt!
Sue has been making these wonderful duffle bags as gifts for her daughter's wedding attendants.  They are monogrammed on the pocket with the attendants initial.
And on the inside, on the pocket is the wedding info.
Here is the contemporary quilt that Sue made as a wedding present for the couple.

The next few pictures are details of the blocks that family members made for a quilt that Sue designed for the couple.  Some amazing talent!

Here is Sue's quilt top.  Sue, why don't you tell the story of the bear block in the comments?  So cute.
Sheree has her Jared Takes a Wife top finished too.
And finally-the charity quilt for the Special Olympics.  Rhonda put a lot of work into this one.  She quilted it, pieced the backing and put the binding on.  When I left she was even working on the label.  Thanks Rhonda!
Here is the back.  Rhonda used the extra blocks in this pieced backing.  Looks great!

Rhonda recently became a grandmother to little Griffon.  Congratulations!  We had a little grandmother's baby shower for her.  I didn't think to take pictures of her gifts.  :(

I was remiss in taking photos of our projects this month too.  Peggy showed us how to make hot pads in five minutes.  They all turned out cute.  Here is what they looked like.
We also worked on Hoito Bags.  Everyone should bring theirs with them next quilt club and I will get pictures then.

We will get back together again Sept.22 for more quilting fun!
Here's a picture of some of the completed bags-Sheree, Rhonda, Cathy and Linda.

July 2012

Quilt club went to Bedford Pa for a Bonnie Hunter weekend.  They stayed at Mary's Quilt Shop.  Here are Bonnie's tips.

Rhonda:  Bonnie says: Do not use a steam iron. No water in the iron. Press don't iron.

Cathy:  when doing four patch - always make sure the dark is on top left when sewing. This will keep all the seams correct and they will nest.

Peggy:  She said when doing sashings, if you use a light or neutral color it will make you block float, I think that is the same as pop. She also said when doing a curved border sew the binding onto the front of the quilt before trimming the curves, because it is easier to shape the binding then.

June 2012 Quilt club

We had a small gathering for quilt club this month.  There were just five of us-Rhonda, Pam, Deb, Linda and Peggy.  We still managed to get a lot accomplished, as you will see later.  But first.....
Deb made a cute little "I love Grandma" set for her friend.  There were bibs, burp cloths and receiving blankets made out of adorable flannel prints.
Than Deb had her finished table runner.  She did stippling in the center and the lines on the border with her DSM.  Great job Deb.
Here is a partial sampling of our meal for the day-pork tacos with refried beans, chips and salsa, veggie tray, blueberry pie and ice tea.
Linda had her Hearts and Doves quilt for show and tell.  We made these as a group and she recently had Rhonda quilt hers.  Beautiful!

Out of this chaotic looking scene comes some wonderful quilts.  The five of us worked on our charity quilts.  The club made blocks and sent them in if they were not able to be at the meeting today.  We put all of the blocks together.  Then we made a pieced border for the one going to the Special Olympics.  Linda will be making the border for her charity quilt.
Here is the quilt while we were working on it.  One pieced border is on it at this point.
And here is the quilt top finished.  It is a really pretty quilt.  Now we will have to decide on color of thread to quilt it with-Rhonda threw out the color silver!  Wouldn't that look fantastic on this?  We also have to decide on the panto pattern.  Between Rhonda and me, we have a nice little library of pantos now.

Next month quilt club will be at a quilting retreat with Bonnie Hunter!

May 2012 quilt club in June

Linda, Sheree, Pam, Cathy and Rhonda started two of the charity quilts. We need a total of 60 blocks to complete two quilts. We decided to go with 5 across and 6 down. We made 720 triangle squares today and cut enough 4 in squares to make the rest for a total of 960 triangle squares. We completed 4 blocks so we have 56 more blocks to complete. If we divide them among the 8 of us, that would give everyone 7 blocks to complete. Let me know if you have time to complete before next quilt club which is June 23rd and I will get them to you. If not, we can get them finished at next quilt club. The four blocks went together really easy and quick.

April 2012

We had a lot of show and tells again this month.  Here are two commissioned quilts Peggy made for the preschools.  She printed out pictures of the class to add to the children's hand prints.  They are adorable!  The teachers will love them.

Here is Rhonda's show and tell.  She and her daughter each made one of these beautiful star quilts.

Deb's quilt is finished!  We all loved her colors.  She tried a new stitch for attaching the binding-the button hole stitch-which looked great and really finished the quilt off nicely.

Rhonda finished her quilt like this-in purples, but it was already gifted.  (Rhonda if you send me a picture I will add it to the blog.  I finished mine too and already gifted it. I will see if I have a picture to add.)

Linda had a lot of show and tells for the month.  Where did she find the time to finish piecing these tops!  The first one is a Thimbleberries block of the month.  Very pretty.

The second one was a kit she got while in Alaska.  She mentioned a mistake that we all think actually added to the quilt.

This third is the progress so far on another lovely block of the month quilt she is making.  The colors are much prettier in person.  She is learning new techniques with this project.

Here is my quilt for show and tell.  This was a commissioned quilt for a friend to give to her daughter for her wedding.  This was designed on EQ7. We were both delighted with how this turned out.

Peggy had been busy.  She made these beaded stilettos using this tutorial.   She gave us each one. They are a fun, pretty new tool for us to use.  It was tossed around at club to make some with our cloverleaf on them to hand out /exchange with quilting friends we meet.

Peggy was also working on hand piecing a hexie quilt.  She says it will be a long time until we see this one finished.
She also had her blocks from her Craftsy quilt along she is doing.
I need to take more pictures!

Deb, Sheree, Linda and Rhonda were using their DSM's to quilt the table runners they made last month.  I quilted the dog mats that I made for a friend.

Here is a little lunch bag I made and shared.  It turned out really cute and I shared the tutorial via email with the club.

And of course there is the food!  Rhonda's chicken corn soup, Sheree's Tex-Mex hotdogs, Deb's coleslaw, Linda's salad, Peggy's strawberry dessert, red velvet cupcakes, artichoke dip, and macaroni salad.  The food is almost as fun as the quilting!

I think we have decided to make the blue and white quilt for the Special Olympics.  I sent a picture of it to everyone and we all like it.  We will have to bring our blue and white squares to work on it.  The block is called the Depression Block.
