I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

This post will only be a virtual quilt show.  I will attach the photos you have sent me of the projects you made and gifted this month. 

These are reversible  place mats Cathy made.

 This is my quilt that I finished Xmas eve.  I was going to embroider eyes and mouth on this but I ran out of time and steam!

 This was a last minute gift-appliqued Oliver's shirts onto a fleece blanket.

 A dress I made for Madison and Sarah's shirt in the back ground.  I asked Madison to pose and this is what I got.  She did her own makeup!  LOL

And a table runner.

November 2017

Almost everyone stopped in to drop off their boxes with the round robin blocks.  Most of us had a lot of fun with these last month.  There were some that stressed out about them too.  Just remember these are going to be sampler quilts, so I don't think you can go wrong with any block you make.  To make it work with the other blocks, just use that constant.  I am so excited to watch as these progress.

Only three of us stayed to actually sew.  Linda, Rhonda and I worked on Bonnie Hunter's new mystery quilt On Ringo Lake.  We finished our first clue.

We did show and tell when most of us were here.  Sue was working on a sock monkey quilt.  How cute is this?  She explained how it was put together in strip sets.  Now she is doing sampler quilting on it.  You can see some of the quilting she has already finished.  Great project!

 Here is Linda's stained glass quilt.  She said it was pretty easy to put together-it doesn't look like it.

 Cathy's Mickey quilt is ready to be bound.  I am looking forward to hearing the recipient's reaction!

 Rhonda found this antique quilt for a steal.  Hand stitched and hand quilted.  Rhonda, what is the name of the block used in this?

Even though there were only three of us, we still managed to have a nice lunch.  Turkey chili, broccoli salad and brownies.

This was our last meeting for the year.  Merry Christmas everyone and we'll see each other next year.  Maybe there will be an early January shop hop-date to be determined.

In Linda's own words:  Broke was adopted as a newborn. . I work with Marianne who is in the picture. Marianne’s son and wife live in Va. her son brought her the baby clothes and no idea about the quilt. They all got together at thanksgiving in VA and celebrated Xmas. Her two sons from Fla were up and her daughter/husband from Pittsburgh were there

When Brooke opened the quilt she loved it from the colors that I used. Purple is her fav. Everyone else was amazed and started picking out the onsies they had bought her. I never felt so good about the feedback on a quilt. She was excited to tell me about their reactions. Her son pointed out the butterfly pattern that Rhonda did. Brooke who is now 3. Dragged the quilt with her to the bathroom for her bath. Would not let it out of her sight!

We had another fun day at quilt club.  We started out be redistributing our boxes with our round robin blocks in.  After a bit of confusion we figured out where our boxes were going and who's box we were going to receive.  I peeked in the box I will be working on next and I must say that I am very impressed with the blocks that are already made.  I am looking forward to adding mine to the mix.  I think we will probably have some more impressive quilts when we are finished with these.  So round one is done and on to round two.

Show and tell was pretty exciting for us.  Sue finished her medallion top and it is magnificient!  Just wow Sue.  This is a show quality quilt.  Her husband is looking forward to receiving this tribute quilt she made for him with the patches and embroidery from his service in Vietnam.

Cathy's cute baby quilt is for her son's college room mate's baby.  He is close to Cathy's heart as a Micky lover too.

 She didn't want to leave out his college, so she included the Maryland mascot on the backing.

Peggy was busy making a big dent in her stash with quite a few scrappy quilts.  This one she designed herself with scraps of flannel. I think these are Christmas presents for her family.

This star quilt is one that Peggy made from Missouri Star.  These are a great collection of scrappy quilts.  Now on to the quilting.

Rhonda quilted Linda's wedding quilt and the quilting made this pretty, modern quilt even prettier.

Rhonda has been keeping up with BH's leader ender projects.  She is going to add a blue border to this and then a green one.  This is even cuter in person.

This is another leader ender project of BH's that Rhonda is working on.  It won't be long until this is a quilt top.

No only has Peggy been busy busting out quilts, but she has been crocheting and knitting too.  She is making crocheted slippers that are going to be wonderful gifts, she is working on a sweater, and she made this adorable bag to keep her knitting supplies in.

We all enjoyed working on these little table mats under Sue's tutelage.  Be sure to bring your completed mats back next month so we can see how they all turned out. 

The food was delicious as usual.  Peggy  made stuffed pepper soup, Cathy made macaroni salad, and Rhonda made Asian turkey roll ups.  We had this with chips and guacamole, cookies and candy and beverages.  

Doris is going to be visiting next week and Rhonda said they are going to be sewing next Saturday and Sunday.  She invited anyone who is available to join in the sewing fun.

Today was the 2nd day of Fall and what a beautiful day it was.  I personally would love this weather year round.  

We had a full house today.  The only one missing was Peggy who had just returned from a vacation in New Orleans.  

Cathy brought her Accuquilt with her today and demonstrated some of her dies.  The adorable little cats will be used for her signature on the back of all of her quilts.  These are ready to fuse as the fusible paper is put on the fabric before it is cut.  Cute idea Cathy.  Then Deb took the demo a little further and cut some bindings with the strip cutter.  Cathy is working on making her own jelly rolls with this particular cutter.  Cathy is very  impressed with the ease of piecing more accurately  now with these precision cut pieces.  I think this will make the whole process so much more fun for her.  Thanks for showing this to us Cathy.

 Patty was in Williamsburg and a friend there gave her this little St Paddy doll along with a shamrock pin.  Patty said he should become our mascot but Rhonda wants a young buff mascot instead!!

 This is a  quilt Cathy made with her 8 inch block cut with the Accuquilt.  This will be for her daughter in law's birthday.

 Deb was inspired to make this orange quilt from a green one she saw at a quilt shop?

 These are the boxes for our next group project.  Rhonda got us each a box with our name on the top of the list and the person who will get the box next below ours.  So every month we will know whose box we have because it belongs to the first person on the list.  We will always be giving the box to the same person each month.  In each box was a little notebook that we are to write a page about the journey of the quilt blocks each month.  The quilt blocks are to finish at 12 inches.  Please be careful and check your 1/4 inch seam.  If you are not sure how to do this, Bonnie Hunter has a little tutorial on it here.

Sue brought a book along with her about the history of some quilts.  She is willing to share this with anyone who is interested in reading it.  Talking about books, did anyone borrow a book about modern children's quilts from Sue?  She thinks she may have lent it to someone and is wanting it back.

 A little birdie told me this cute little octagon quilt may be a make and take project!  This is just the sweetest little table topper.

 Check out that fabric Sue used for her beach bag!  This is a different pattern than the ones we had made previously.  She made a zippered pocket and a key fob.

 Rhonda finished her  cats quilt.

 And did we have food!  Pasta salads, salsa and chips, apple and pulled pork, apple tarts......

Deb will be leaving us and moving to South Carolina soon.   She hopes to be able to stop in to visit us when she comes North for visits.   Good luck with your move, I hope everything goes smoothly for you and best wishes for your retirement!

Once again, lest we forget! are the instructions for the group project.

Cloverleaf Quilter’s Group Project 2017

Each member will create a quilt from chosen focus fabric.  Each quilt club member will contribute two 12.5 inch blocks (12 inch finished) for each of the participants.

This project will be completed in one year from date of start.

·         Start with a 3 yard length of focus fabric of your choosing.

·         If you want this to be your border cut them first and mark so it doesn’t get used during the journey.

·         I suggest cutting three strips at 4.5, 5.5 or 6.5 from the length, 324 inches.  This should be more than enough for a big quilt.

·         Next, if you want to want to have a more controlled quilt, not scrappy, I would suggest adding some contrast fabrics from your stash.  If not the next person will make blocks using what they have in their stash.  You should not buy fabric for this project.  Work with what you have. 

·         The first set of blocks will set the tone of the quilt and the owner will make the first two blocks for their quilt.

·         Boxes will be provided at the September meeting; you will take it home with you and create your first two blocks.

·         You will have until the next quilt club to create two 12.5 inch (finishing at 12 inches) blocks out of the fabrics. 

·         Each month we will continue to pass the box following the order on your box.  The next person will then create the next two blocks.

·         There will be no show and tell.  A diary will be provided in the box to document the project.  (Why you chose the blocks, fabric, colors, any comments about the blocks already created, etc.)

·         When all 8 members have completed the blocks, you will have the pleasure of completing your quilt. You can do whatever you want.

·         Make it bigger by making more blocks

·         Just add borders

·         We will then have the last few months to complete any extra blocks, borders, and quilting.
