April 2013

We had another month with a lot of show and tells.  Rhonda put the borders on her jelly roll quilt.  I can't wait to see this quilted.  The colors are wonderful.  Do you see the secondary pinwheels?

Peggy is finally making something for herself!  Here is a shawl she is crocheting so she can sit outside in the evening.  So pretty.
This is Rhonda's "Jared takes a wife" quilt.  This is a great pattern as all of the quilts done by club members are so different and so pretty.  Very nice Rhonda.
Linda is ready to get this old WIP quilt finished.  We made this one as a group quite a while ago.  She worked on backings today for  this one and some of her other show and tells.
This quilt is from a kit that Linda fell in love with the colors.  She found the perfect backing for it too.
Another quilt that Linda made a backing for today-an Amish style quilt she got as a kit.  Great job on all of these Linda!
Another "Easy Street" finish!  Deb used the purple as a large border on hers that helps to pull the purple out.  When everyone has theirs quilted we should take them outside and get a picture of all of them.  I love this quilt!
I finally finished my tumbler quilt.  This is one we all did, I think.  It would be kind of fun to get us all together with our quilts for a group picture.
This is the quilting on the back of my quilt.
Sue always has something interesting to share with us.  (Nice to have you back Sue!)  This was made by an elderly lady who died before she finished it.  A family member asked Sue to finish it.  Sue quilted in on her DSM!  She did a really nice job of meandering it.  I think that is amazing.  This is the 13th top the lady made with her husband's flannel shirts for her grandchildren.

Here we are being productive.  It was nice to have Cathy with us too.  Everyone was here today but Sheree.
As usual we had really good food to eat.  Rhonda made a Mexican casserole.  Recipe following picture.   She also made the Babe Ruth candy pictured here.  Deb made her delicious cole slaw, and we had chips, dip, guacamole and a jelly dessert (not pictured.)

Taco Pie

2 packages of  crescent rolls (you can also purchase this in sheets now)
1 bag of corn chips (crushed)
16 oz sour cream
1 1/2 -2 pounds of hamburger (turkey or chicken)
2 packages of taco seasoning
4 cup package of Shredded cheese  (your choice of type) if you prefer you could use less.

Brown hamburger with taco seasoning according to directions on taco seasoning. Line 9 x 13 pan with crescent rolls, crumble ½ bag of corn chips on top of crescent rolls. Put hamburger mixture on top of corn chips and then cover with the sour cream. Please ¾ of bag of cheese on top of sour cream and put other ½ bag of corn chips on top of sour cream. Top off with the remainder of cheese and bake at 375 for approx. 20 minutes or until crescent rolls are done.

Sue brought a Bucket Boss to show us.  She took it apart to figure out the pattern and then duplicated it.  She also kindly shared the pattern and wrote a tutorial for us.  Nice idea for Father's Day (or Steve's birthday next month!)

We discussed the charity quilt we will be making for Special Olympics.   We are going to use bright fabrics.  Rhonda had some jelly rolls that she shared with us.  We are to make seven sets ( four in each set of the same fabric) of strips 2 1/2 X 6 1/2 and  17 single strips  2 1/2 X 6 1/2.  We will be sewing them together when we meet again.  These need to be laid out correctly to get the star patterns.  An EQ7 drawing is in last months blog.

If I missed anything, let me know and I will add to the blog.  We will be getting together again June 1st.  Hope everyone will be able to make it.  Happy Spring!  It is finally here!
